Mat Butler made a winning start to his professional boxing career.

The Minster light middleweight beat Danny Donchev on points at the Camden Centre in London on Friday.

It was Donchev’s 77th fight of his pro career but he wasn’t able to ruin The Bomber’s big day.

“It was a great experience and went as smoothly as I could have hoped,” said the 33-year-old.

“I’ve never been so calm. I had been training for a year in the build-up to my professional debut and knew what I had to do.

“We thought he might stick his head in a bit and there was the odd headbutt. It’s left a little mark but nothing major. I won every round and done well against a boxer who rarely gets stopped.”

Butler’s next action is likely to be in the new year.

He said: “I might get a hotel show but unless something crops up, it will more likely be February now.”
