Vote Shepxit: online poster calls for Sheppey to quit United Kingdom

It’s the question everybody has on their minds.

Come 7am on Friday, will Sheppey still be part of the United Kingdom?

Signs have sprung up across the sunshine isle, calling for independence.

Mainlanders may think this has something to do with the EU debate.

But they’ll be wrong: Sheppey wants out of England.

For decades, there has been an uneasy truce between Islanders and their masters at Swale council in Sittingbourne.

Now, a poster has emerged on social media calling for a better deal.

The Vote Shepxit banner points out various facts that are bound to rouse the Island community.

Among them it highlights the unfairness of paying £1.6 million in taxes and only getting twice that back in benefit payments.

And in a clear call to arms, it suggest doing away with the Sheppey Crossing.

That way immigration can be easily controlled by just using the neighbouring Kingsferry Bridge.

As this goes up and down at the push of a button, Swampies can decide who’s allowed in.

The poster cries: “Sheppey laws for Sheppey people! Sheppey people are a law onto themselves.

“It’s about time we had some laws that we could follow and not those set out by the government!”

As well as the online appeal, many ‘leave’ posters have been spotted around the Island.

One even adorns the Welcome to the Isle of Sheppey sign on the A249 as people drive off the crossing.

Many others have been placed up and down the High Street in Sheerness – the Island’s capital-in-waiting.

One passer-by, who didn’t want to be named as he should have been at work, said he’d definitely be voting to quit Britain.

He stormed: “What has the mainland ever done for Sheppey? Apart from the £100 million new bridge, £60 million academy? Neats Court retail park and £50 million Aldi distribution centre? That’s right; nothing.”
