The Kent Invicta League’s in-form side stand in Sheppey United’s way this weekend.

The Ites are looking to book a place in the Challenge Trophy final to take some of the pain away from last weekend’s title blow.

The Trophy could now be Sheppey’s best chance of success after they conceded a late equaliser at home to Seven Acre & Sidcup last Saturday. They are now 10 points adrift of Hollands & Blair in the chase to win a place in Southern Counties East.

But Kevin Hake’s side face a Bearsted outfit who have won their last six games and are unbeaten in their previous 10 matches.

The cup game could be just the tonic and Hake said: “We’re disappointed that we dropped points but we’re not crying about it. We’ve got a mountain to climb now in the league but we’ll keep working hard.

“Bearsted are the form team at the moment, along with Hollands & Blair and we will have to be at our best to beat them.”

Sheppey were the last team to beat Bearsted in the league, registering a 5-3 win four months ago and Hake added: “If we can get all of our players out then we have a good chance.

“It’s nice for us to have a game like this now, a game that means something. It would be nice to be in a final.”
