Sheppey RFC coach Rob Dengate drops captain Tom Varker but could recall him for derby against Sittingbourne RFC

Sheppey coach Rob Dengate has warned his players that nobody’s place in the side is safe.

He relegated skipper Tom Varker to the bench at the weekend for the 29-20 win over HSBC.

Varker did eventually play a part and could be back to start in the derby clash at Sittingbourne this Saturday.

But Dengate said: "I’m not afraid to make these decisions. If players are training hard and impressing then they will get a chance.

"Leaving my captain on the bench might have sent a signal to the rest of the team that there is a challenge here for shirts.

"Rhys McDermott was given a chance and I also promoted Zac Taylor from the 2nds, who had a good game in the centre.

"Tom came on in the game and put himself about a bit more and had the right impact.

"I’ve got some choices to make this weekend now."
