Sheppey Rugby Club are facing a win-or-bust weekend.

Rob Dengate’s side need a home victory in their rearranged game against King’s College Hospital on Saturday to book a play-off place.

The team finishing second in Kent 1 will face Sussex 1 runners-up Burgess Hill for a place in London 3 South East next season.

Third-placed Sheppey will leapfrog Beccehamian into second with a win. Anything less and their promotion hopes will be over.

Dengate said: “Our whole season is rolled into one game. We’ve got a few players missing but we’ve got a good squad and the seconds’ season is now over and so others could step up. It’s the big one and we’re ready.

“If we play like we have in the last four or five games, then we will do it. The way we played in the second half on Saturday against Bexley was good enough for two leagues above.”

One major loss will be captain Tom Varker, who dislocated his elbow last weekend and is out for the rest of the season.

Dengate said: “That’s a big miss for us. Earlier on in the season he was fighting for his position but he nailed it. He has led by example and we just hope there are no
long-term issues.”
