Sheppey produced their best rugby of the season to beat Sittingbourne in the Swale derby.

The Islanders were 22-10 winners in Saturday’s Kent 1 game at The Grove and are only a point behind leaders Cranbrook in third place.

Coach Rob Dengate said: “In terms of performance and discipline, it was the best we’ve been all year.

“I know it’s only five games, but we’re gelling well and there’s competition for places.

“It was a derby but we didn’t concentrate on Sittingbourne whatsoever. We had our game plan and the three key words were performance, discipline and execution."

Sheppey are at full strength for their home game against Southwark Lancers this Saturday. It means several players will miss out.

Dengate said: “It’s not nice telling people they’re not involved. The reaction you get is always one of frustration, but it’s good people are disappointed as it shows they care."
