Tunbridge Wells 1 Sheppey United 1 match report

Tunbridge Wells scored a 90th-minute equaliser to deny Sheppey maximum points in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division on Saturday.

Substitute Franco Mici fired through a crowded penalty area to make it five games without a win for Sheppey.

Ernie Batten's men had led since the half-hour mark with a goal that was credited to forward Remel Davis.

Sheppey defender Jon Ralph picked up an early yellow card from referee Kane Obeirne, who gave the visitors little in the early exchanges.

Keeper Josh Glover was forced into early action when he had to keep out John Shea's low drive after Luke Girt lost the ball cheaply.

Sheppey, cheered on by an excellent vocal support, went ahead on the half-hour when Hicham Akhazzan's corner was nodded towards goal by Davis and it went in via a defender.

The visitors then enjoyed their best spell of the game but were unable to convert that pressure into more goals, Jack Mahoney going close but keeper Jack Bradshaw was up to the task.

Tunbridge Wells were the better team after the break and penned Sheppey back, albeit without looking too threatening in front of goal.

Glover had to turn over Tom Lawrence's cross-shot from a short corner before making a good save at the near post to keep out Mici.

Sheppey could only muster off-target efforts from Dan Bradshaw and Davis as their passing went astray more often than not.

Tunbridge Wells had plenty of openings but Sheppey looked to have withstood the pressure until the last minute when a right-wing corner was cleared only as far as the edge of the box where Mici produced an excellent drive to level the scores.
