Our season starts now – that’s the message from Minster’s rejuvenated skipper Martin Hammond.

A first win in six last weekend was the boost the Kent League, Division 3 side badly needed.

“It’s our first win of the season and our best performance so far,” said Hammond after the seven-wicket victory over OD CUACO.

“We knew the pressure was on. We had to start the season now – it had to happen. We’re moving on now as if last week was the start of the season for us, not five weeks ago.

Virendra Vegda top scored with 41 after Hammond had taken 4-27 and the skipper thinks Minster rested on their laurels at the start of the summer.

“I think we took the start of the season for granted," he said.

"We’ve been in this division for three seasons and maybe we were expecting to beat some teams rather than going out and playing to our full potential.”

On Saturday Minster visit Sidcup, who are directly above them in the table and a win will take the Islanders off the bottom.
