Minster’s survival hopes in Kent League Division 3 will be put under the spotlight at Gilbert Hall this Saturday.

Skipper Martin Hammond has labelled this weekend’s game against fellow strugglers Addington Village as “absolutely massive”.

Minster are bottom of the table, with their opponents just one place above, and defeat will leave the Islanders cut adrift as the season reaches the halfway point.

They have just one win all season and head into the weekend 16 points behind Addington and 37 behind third-from-bottom OD CUACO – the one team they beat in mid-June.

Hammond, whose side lost to leaders Ashford Town by six wickets last weekend, knows just how important the match is.

He said: “We went into the Ashford game with nothing to lose but our next game is the one for us.

"We are not going to be giving up, that’s for sure. A big win at the weekend will take us above Addington and we’ve got some nice-looking home games to come
as well, against Sidcup and Old Colfeians.

“With a good win, we’re off the bottom and that’s somewhere we haven’t been all season. The game is absolutely massive.”
