A husband-and-wife team has launched a community website for the town.

Sittingbourne.Me is the brainchild of Andy and Zoe Hudson, of Doubleday Drive, Bapchild.

The couple came up with the idea at Christmas but it took six months to develop – finally going live at the beginning the month.

They were inspired by the website www.faversham.org which Mr Hudson maintains through his business Hudson Berkley Reinhart Ltd.

The 46-year-old said: “It was started by a couple of volunteers about 10 years ago. It’s a very popular site for the town.

“For a long time we were hoping there would be something similar set up for Sittingbourne but when it didn’t happen we decided to do it ourselves.

“It focuses exclusively on Sittingbourne and the surrounding villages, the people who live here, their interests, news, events, history, community groups and everything else that might be useful.

“We already have over 700 pages with around 430 local businesses and organisations and we have only just got started.

“People in Faversham are so positive about their site and we hope people here will be the same about ours.

“If it’s as successful as the Faversham one in years to come then we will be very happy indeed.”

Mrs Hudson, 41, added: “We’ve had a lot of people telling us what a great idea the website is in concept and while we are very excited that we have finally launched the site, we are also a little nervous too as to how it will be received. We really hope that everyone finds it a useful and pleasurable experience.”

Businesses, community groups, charities, clubs, societies and other non-commercial organisations that are based in Sittingbourne or the surrounding villages can have their details listed for free on the site.
