Police were called to Milton after complaints a woman had been sexually assaulted.

Witnesses reported seeing a young woman running along the High Street at about 8.40pm on Sunday, crying and claiming she had been raped.

One onlooker, who did not want to be named, said: “The girl was fully-clothed.

“She seemed very upset, then seconds later the police arrived.

“They were trying to calm her down, then she and another girl were taken away in separate police cars.”

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of rape. He has been released on police bail until Wednesday, August 21.

A 22-year-old Milton woman has been charged with possessing a bladed article in a public place. She has been bailed to appear at court Friday, June 28.
