A249 reopens after serious crash

Traffic along a major route is finally on the move having been closed by a crash this morning.

Police closed the road both ways after the incident on the Maidstone-bound A249, heading towards Stockbury.

They were called at 6.33am and paramedics are also at the scene.

At around 1.20pm, Highways England announced it was "in the process of re-opening the road in both directions," six hours after the road was closed by police.

One lane of the northbound carriageway was reopened at around 9.45am but for Maidstone bound traffic, the road remain closed until the afternoon.

One person has suffered serious injuries after two cars crashed on the southbound carriageway.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) has been contacted for comment.

The delays are not helped by a separate crash on the M2 London-bound between J6 for Faversham and J5 for the A249 at the Stockbury Roundabout.

There is slow traffic and one lane blocked due to the three-vehicle pile-up.
