POLICE closed the coastbound carriageway of the M2 motorway between Sittingbourne and Faversham on Thursday afternoon after three cars and a lorry collided.

Fire crews from Sittingbourne and Faversham attended, but one trapped driver was released before they arrived.

A Citreon van, Ford Fiesta and a Ford Focus were involved in the collision with the heavy goods vehicle.

The accident happened at 4.20pm and was still being dealt with at 5pm, causing serious congestion between the two junctions.
