Sittingbourne church warden to conquer her greatest fear for Macmillan

A church warden is set to take a leap of faith.

Despite having a fear of heights Jan Rainer will throw herself out of an aeroplane (weather permitting) on Bank Holiday Monday.

The 64-year-old agreed to the tandem parachute jump after making an off the cuff remark about doing it to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support while chatting to a group of parishioners at Holy Trinity Church, Milton Regis, last summer.

Mrs Rainer, of Bradley Drive, Sittingbourne, said: “You know what it’s like after you open your mouth, you think ‘I shouldn’t have said that.’

“I’m the only idiot doing it.

“I’ve never done a parachute jump, I don’t even like heights so I’m a bit nervous but I’m trying to get over it and get on with it.”

So far, the grandmother of five has raised £920.
