Anglo Saxon battle reenactments at The Meads Community Woodland, Sittingbourne

More than 100 people descended on The Meads Community Woodland in Sittingbourne for a family fun day.

As part of the Woodland Wildlife Hidden History project, visitors spent the day enjoying activities that ranged from willow-weaving to watching Anglo Saxon battle reenactments.

The project, which is run by the Mid Kent Downs Countryside Partnership, is being run to encourage community interest in local wildlife and history.

Senior project officer at the partnership, Mike Phillips, said: “It’s about getting people to understand more about natural history and archeological history of the site.

“We believe it is on the site of an Anglo Saxon burial ground, so it’s getting people to find out about how the land was used in the past.”
