Inquest opens into death of Rainham teenager Jack Burmingham in Sittingbourne crash

A teenager suffered a fatal head injury after a truck span out of control and crashed in Newington, a court heard.

Opening the inquest into the death of Jack Burmingham, 17, at Archbishop’s Palace in Maidstone, senior coroner Patricia Harding described how the apprentice tradesman was a passenger in a truck, a white Mitsubishi L200.

It was travelling on the A2 London Road when it crashed into a boundary wall and a parked vehicle near the junction of Playstool Road just before 10pm on Thursday, May 18.

The reasons for the crash are not known.

Jack, from Rainham, died at the scene. Three others were also taken to hospital.

Mrs Harding adjourned the hearing until July 25 when a full inquest will be heard.

Police are keen to talk to the driver of a dark-coloured, medium-sized hatchback car which was in the area.

It was travelling from the direction of Keycol Hill towards Rainham.
