M2 queues after lorry overturns at Stockbury Roundabout in Sittingbourne

Traffic has remained at a standstill on the A249 at Sittingbourne into the evening rush-hour after a lorry overturned this morning.

A lane was blocked on the M2 slip road near the Stockbury Roundabout after a crash at about 8.30am.

But traffic was still queuing this evening as work continued to remove the lorry, which was carrying plastic and caused a fuel spillage when it overturned.

For drivers heading northbound towards Stockbury Roundabout from Maidstone, vehicles were tailing back as far Detling Aerodrome at 5pm.

One lane of the northbound carriageway for Sheppey was closed with cars being diverted along Danaway.

However, large vehicles are banned from using this route because of a width restriction.

The road was expected to remain closed until 5.30pm for the recovery of the lorry.
