Accident on M2 between Gillingham and Sittingbourne

Officers investigating a serious crash on the M2 between Gillingham and Sittingbourne are appealing for witnesses.

Kent Police was called at 5.45pm on Sunday to a report of a collision involving a grey BMW 320D and a red Iveco Ford horse box on the coast-bound carriageway between Junction 4 and Junction 5.

Traffic was initially stopped and a full road closure put in place from Junction 4 at about 6.10pm.

The Londonbound carriageway was also closed at the same time to allow Kent Air Ambulance to land.

A female passenger with head injuries was flown to a hospital in London, where she remains in a stable condition.

A second person was taken by land ambulance to a hospital in Ashford.

The motorway was fully reopened by 7.45pm.
