Tributes paid to Chris Ewell, Sittingbourne's 'Can Man'

A large crowd gathered to say goodbye to Chris Ewell, Sittingbourne's 'Can Man'.

The 62-year-old collapsed and died at APM Metals on Eurolink Way on February 2.

He was well known around the town for cycling around on a bicycle, collecting discarded cans, which he would sell to the recycling firm for donations to Neuroblastoma UK.

More than 50 family and friends gathered at the Garden of England Crematorium in Bobbing this afternoon to say goodbye to a man who was well known as a 'character'.

The service was delivered by Peter Tongue and readings and tributes were given by his sister and daughter.

Music by Coldplay, Rod Steward and Ozzy Osbourne played out as the room reflected on his life.

Also in attendance were Mayor of Swale Cllr Lesley Ingham and Gareth Hyams, director at APM Metals.

The funeral parade made its way from the town centre, past his favourite watering holes The George and Millers Bar in Milton Regis and also stopped outside the recycling centre.

His bicycle was ridden by one of his friends to the crematorium.

Chris leaves behind his family and many friends along with memories of a lifetime of fundraising.
