Finally... A249 reopen after three week closure due to burst water main

The A249 has finally reopened, more than three weeks after water main burst.

Both lanes opened in time for this morning's rush hour, after being at least partially closed for more than three weeks.

The northbound carriageway has had temporary restrictions since the main underneath the road ruptured on Monday, January 11.

The leaking main left a large void beneath the carriageway, which had to be filled before the road could be safely used.

Final work to remove the restrictions on the main carriageway was completed overnight.

But the northbound exit slip road at the Bobbing junction will remain closed for a further day and is expected to reopen tomorrow.

A diversion remains in place directing drivers to the B2005 junction, where they can turn round and approach Bobbing via the southbound A249.
