Former East Kent Gazette editor Christine Rayner pens book about Sittingbourne's history

Stories of bygone Sittingbourne have proved to be a hit with residents.

Former East Kent Gazette editor Christine Rayner has compiled a book of material featured in the weekly Memories page of the newspaper over two decades – and it has sold out.

There will now be a second impression of her book, That Reminds Me, issued this month.

Mrs Rayner said: “I loved writing the memories page and was always delighted at the response from readers.

"They shared so many wonderful stories of Sittingbourne over the years and lent me precious artefacts and photographs.

“The town has a deep and varied history and the book reflects this.”

Mrs Rayner, who worked for the Gazette for 32 years until its closure in December 2011, is now planning a second volume in the series for publication in the spring.

That Reminds Me is available at Sittingbourne Library, Nickel Books, High Street, and the heritage museum exhibition in The Forum, price £7.99. Mrs Rayner can be contacted atChristine@birchleafbooks.co.uk
