Police have been searching a field in Iwade following reports a firearm may have been discarded in the area.

Witnesses said blue flashing lights were seen in Parsonage Lane, just off Stickfast Lane.

The force confirmed on its Twitter page an operation was underway, saying: "Officers are searching a field there following a report that a possible firearm may have been discarded in the area."

They are thought to have been scouring the site since yesterday morning.

Officers left the scene at about 5pm.
