A Sittingbourne hostel been recognised alongside the likes of The Fox Club Mayfair and the luxurious Hilton Hotel after receiving a prestigious award.

In a ceremony transmitted live online from London’s Savoy, The Palace Farm Hostel in Doddington, came fifth in its category in the Simply the Guest awards run by the booking giant LateRooms.com.

The show, on January 20, was presided over by comedian and TV star Alex Brooker, who has made his name appearing in shows including The Jump and The Last Leg.

Palace Farm owners Graham and Liz Cuthbert watched the live web streaming as their no-frills establishment, where prices start at £16 per night, was honoured.

Mr Cuthbert said: “We are delighted. We’ve been open just over 10 years now and we’ve seen a steady increase in business, a lot of it also comes through LateRooms.

“But at the moment we won’t see a surge in business from it because we’re full.”

The ceremony was the third year of the awards, which see hotels, motels and B&Bs from across the world judged by guests to win a coveted place in the top 10 of their category.

The awards scheme was launched in 2012, 20 years after bored rock stars stopped throwing TVs through hotel windows.

Host Alex Brooker said: “Fortunately, things have moved on a bit since then and even the most anarchic rock star would be gob-smacked by what’s on offer in the best hotels these days.

“So these awards are making hotel choices easier by highlighting and rewarding hotels worldwide that achieve the best guest reviews.”
