Lorry driver arrested after pedestrian killed in St Michael's Road, Sittingbourne

A lorry driver has been arrested after a pedestrian was killed close to Sittingbourne train station.

A 62-year-old man from the Netherlands was taken into custody following the tragedy in St Michael’s Road on Saturday.

It happened at just before 11.30pm and the man was declared dead at the scene.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released pending further inquiries.

Flowers have been left on railings near to where the crash happened, with a message from a well-wisher.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who saw the pedestrian or lorry beforehand.
