Power cut affects 1,500 customers in Sittingbourne

Nearly 1,500 homes and businesses were hit by a major power cut in Sittingbourne.

A fault on an underground electricity cable was responsible for the blackout, which happened off Cryalls Lane near Westlands School.

UK Power Networks confirmed 1,495 customers were affected, including properties with postcodes that start ME10 1, ME10 2, ME10 5, and ME9 8.

The power supply went off just before 5pm and was restored at around 6.30pm.

It comes after some residents living in the ME10 4 postcode area were without power for more than four hours earlier today.

UK Power Networks said supplies had to be cut off so engineers could safely carry out emergency repairs to the network.

There was no electricity from 9.48am and it was not restored to some properties until 2.30pm.
