Man arrested for arson after A249 Detling Hill caravan fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a caravan fire on the A249.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 7am after reports that a person was seen with a weapon in the Stockbury Valley area.

A caravan was also reported to be on fire.

One man has been taken to hospital with a possible broken leg and cuts.

Officers, along with SECAmb and Kent Fire and Rescue Service are at scene.

The incident has caused major disruption on the road.

The Sittingbourne-bound carriageway reopened at around 10.25am, however, because of a report a weapon was seen the Maidstone-bound carriageway is likely to remain closed for several hours while officers conducted searches and make further enquiries.
