Sittingbourne nursery raises money for dying mum Aimee Willett

A nursery has raised more than £300 for dying mother Aimee Willett who is facing her last Christmas with her two young children.

More than 100 people attended the fundraiser at Rising Stars, based at Milton Court Children’s Centre in Sittingbourne, on Saturday.

Attractions included a tombola, coconut shy, cake stall, face painting, splat the rat, guess how many sweets are in the jar and guess the weight of the cake plus a raffle.

Youngsters also got the chance to encounter snakes, spiders and rats courtesy of ZooLab.

Aimee went along with her two sons Kaleb, three, who attends the nursery, and Charlie, eight.

Staff rallied round the 26-year-old after she was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour six months after she was first told she had cancer.

The disease was discovered after undergoing her first smear test at the age of 25, when screening starts.

While she will be here to enjoy this year’s festivities, the longer-term prognosis is less clear.

Now the former Sittingbourne Community College pupil, of the town’s Charlotte Street, is focusing on having the “best Christmas ever” and making lasting memories with her family.

The News Extra earlier reported dozens of businesses had offered their services for free to help make her dream come true to marry her partner of six years, Michael Bond. It was top of her bucket list.

Nursery deputy manager Cheryl Mallion said: “The day went really well. We just wanted to raise money for the family so they can do something together.”

Staff plan to raise more money with a quiz night, taking place at the nursery tomorrow night tonight from 7pm to 9pm.

The early years workers and parents will also take part in a 10-mile sponsored walk from Rochester Castle to the town on January 10.

An online appeal is also still running. It reached more than £30,000 within 26 hours of it going live after an anonymous donation of £25,000 was pledged.
