Eco Energy World plans solar farm in Stickfast Lane, Bobbing

Plans to build a solar farm in Bobbing have been unveiled.

Eco Energy World wants to install a number of panels on 21 hectares of land in Stickfast Lane.

Once operational, it is estimated the farm will have the capacity to generate 10MW of electricity – enough to power approximately 2,700 homes.

Thirty-one people, including representatives from Kent County Council, Swale council, Bobbing Parish Council, attended an exhibition at the village hall last Thursday to see how it might look.

Members of the project team were also on hand to answer questions. Solar electricity is regarded as a clean source of power as there are no emissions, waste products or pollutants.

The power generated will be fed into the National Grid for use by homes and industry.

Project manager Annika Tamm said: “Initial feedback received during our engagement with the local community and key stakeholders has been largely positive.

“A small number of concerns have been raised that we are currently addressing. We are hopeful that we will be able to modify our plans in such a way that these concerns are mitigated.

“We believe that factors such as proximity to a National Grid connection, limited visual impact, soil quality, site access and number of sun hours per sq/m make the site an optimum location for a solar project.

“The project would make a significant contribution to helping the UK meet its targets for renewable energy, address our rising energy demands and lessen our reliance on rapidly diminishing fossil fuels.”

A planning application is expected to be submitted to Swale council by the end of April.
