Burglars target Cooperative store in Newington High Street

A Co-op store was burgled for the second time in just over three months overnight.

The shop in Newington High Street was targeted by raiders either late last night or in the early hours of this morning.

The raiders kicked in the glass front door of the shop before making off with cigarettes.

On November 16 last year, thieves threw a brick through the front window and also stole tobacco products.

Co-op’s manager confirmed it has passed CCTV of the latest incident to the authorities.

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating reports of a burglary other than a dwelling at the Co-op in High Street, Newington.

“A window was damaged and a small quantity of cigarettes reported stolen. Enquiries are ongoing.”
