A major road in Sittingbourne was closed in both directions following a serious crash.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were sent to the A2 London Road near The Billet pub.

It is believed the accident was a head-on collision.

A woman was freed after three fire engines were sent to the scene at about 3.30pm.

The woman was passed into the care of air ambulance and paramedic crews.

It is not known at this stage the extent of her injuries.

The road reopened at around 6.30pm.
