Ten acres of corn destroyed by fire in Stockbury

Acres of standing corn has been destroyed by a fire.

Around 10 acres of the crop was burnt after a fire started in fields next to Fimbury Lane and Yelsted Lane in Stockbury, near Sittingbourne, at around 6.40pm on Sunday.

Firefighters were called hours after a similar blaze in a cornfield near Canterbury.

Six fire engines and around 25 firefighters were sent to the scene in Stockbury.

By 8.15pm the fire was out, with crews remaining at the scene for checks until around 9pm.
