Sittingbourne Mecca Bingo Star Search contestant Hannah Roberts made it through to the regional finals

A Sittingbourne musician has vowed to continue making YouTube videos despite failing to make it through to the national final of a singing contest.

Hannah Roberts entered a rendition of Bill Withers’s song Ain’t No Sunshine in the Mecca Bingo Star Search competition.

She made it through to the regional finals in Southend last month.

The 19-year-old impressed a judging panel with her rendition of Great Escape by Mike Dingham.

However, she was pipped into first place by Luton-based vocalist Leon Bratt.

It means Hannah has missed out on the chance to perform at a star-studded finale in Blackpool, which will be hosted by X Factor finalist Stacey Soloman.

The winner also gets a trip to Los Angeles with a stay at a luxury Beverley Hills hotel and cash for a spending spree in the City of Angels.

Hannah, who lives in Highsted Road, said: “I wasn’t expecting to get through to the regional round.

“It was very exciting; a good end to a dramatic week.

“I sing as a hobby on YouTube and I enjoy doing it in my spare time, when I’ve got it.”

Apart from her interest in music, Hannah is also a primary education student at Canterbury Christ Church University.
