Sheds at the Riddles Road allotments in Borden targeted again by thieves

Riddles Road allotments have been targeted by thieves again, much to the frustration of pensioner Warwick Stevens.

A shed was burgled at the site in Borden between October 9 and 10.

The crime reference number for the break-in is XY/036183/14.

It comes two weeks after a small gas stove and saucepan were taken from another outbuilding at the site between September 26 and 27.

In August Mr Stevens pleaded with burglars to “leave us alone” after the community gardening area was vandalised.

The door to his shed was smashed and its contents were strewn about when yobs struck.

It was one of four buildings damaged during an overnight raid on August 27.

The 72-year-old great-grandfather from Hill Brow, Sittingbourne, said it was pointless renewing his appeal to those responsible to stay away.

He said: “Several buildings at the top end were damaged in the latest attack. Mine wasn’t one of them fortunately.

“They took cutting knives, coats and rucksacks.

“I think it’s the same people because they did sheds this time that weren’t done last time.

“It’s no good telling them to stay away. They’re bloody yobs.

“The area is wide open, the fence is only a metre high and we’re not allowed to put barbed wire on the top or on the gate because if they hurt themselves we’ll get the blame.

“There’s not a lot we can do. All we hope is that the police will do something.”

During the past 24 months more than 725 break-ins and attempted burglaries have been brought to his paper’s attention.

The latest incidents are as follows:

Several items stolen from Randle Way in Bapchild, sometime after 8.15am on Tuesday, October 7 – XY/035629/14.

Between 2pm and 11.53pm on Saturday, October 4 a burglary occurred in Church Lane, Newington. Various items were stolen – XY/035482/14.

Two doors and a window were criminally damaged during a burglary in Honeysuckle Court, Murston.

A black iPad was among the items taken.

The break-in happened between 5am and 7.30am on Tuesday, October 7 – XY/035544/14.
