Demelza fundraisers aim to conquer another marathon

A couple who found love through Facebook have set themselves the challenge of running three marathons in just seven weeks.

Liam Gibson and Zoe Norman are to compete in races in Paris, London and Edinburgh between April 12 and May 31.

Asda employee Liam started running two years ago with the aim of losing weight.

The 40-year-old lost two-and-a-half-stone while in training for Brighton, London, Liverpool and Beachy Head marathons last year.

Part of his inspiration for running is his girlfriend, 32, who lived in Brighton.

The couple met through a Facebook group set up by Zoe for the Brighton and London marathon’s they both ran last year and celebrated their first anniversary on March 22.

They are running the Paris Marathon on April 12, the London race on April 26 and another 26.2 miles in Edinburgh on May 31.

Liam, from Walderslade, is raising money for Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

He said: “I wanted to support a charity in Sittingbourne and as a store we do a lot of fundraising for Demelza.”

Liam runs 35 miles a week to prepare himself for the marathons. He added: “When you get to 20 miles, that’s when it gets hard and you hit the ‘runners wall’, but the camaraderie with other runners is a great feeling.

“We all help each other. If you are having a bad time, it helps to motivate you and push you on.”

Liam has also qualified for the Beachy Head marathon, which takes place in October, through the running club he attends, the Maidstone Harriers.
