Two arrested after burglaries in Teynham, Detling and Gillingam

A pair of suspected burglars who tried to evade police capture by driving without their headlights on have been arrested.

Police had been called out to a reported burglary at the Co-op in London Road, Teynham in the early hours of Saturday morning, when they spotted a car driving away.

The vehicle, which had no headlights on, was chased by police toward Shortlands Road in Sittingbourne.

During the pursuit, several items were thrown from the suspects' car.

The vehicle eventually stopped Shortlands Road and police gave chase on foot.

Two men, aged 41 and 22 from Maidstone were arrested on supicion of theft and burglary, while police also recovered a crowbar and screwdriver.

The pair are now being investigated in connection with an aggravated burglary at Bangers diner in Detling and a burglary at the Co-op in Hempstead Road, Gillingham where cigarettes were reportedly stolen.

Both men have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
