A man had to be cut free after a car hit several parked cars in Teynham yesterday.

Police were called at around 5pm amid reports a blue Ford Puma had crashed at The Crescent.

It’s understand the woman driver was travelling towards Sittingbourne when the accident happened.

Hari Johnstone, who owns The Railway Tavern, was working at the pub when he

heard the crash. He ran outside to see what had happened.

He said: “Apparently she hit a red Volkswagen Golf at the top of the road, then a blue Peugeot - not sure of the model.

"She then carried on driving, hit the kerb and went across the road and hit a black Vauxhall Corsa up the back, which was then pushed into a silver Ford Transit van. They were all on the lefthand side of the road.

“The woman was screaming. She was about 25 to 30 years old. The man in the passenger’s side, who was probably about 35, couldn’t get out.

“First an ambulance turned up, after that two fire engines, then another ambulance and the police came last.

“The man had to be cut out of the car. They removed the roof.

“The police closed the road to traffic in both directions.”

It’s understood the woman, who didn’t suffer serious injuries, was treated by ambulance crews at the scene.

The man, who was freed by firefighters and put on a longboard due to suspected spinal injuries, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham for treatment.

The extent of his injuries isn’t known.

The road was closed from Norton Cross Road while vehicles were cleared away.

Anyone who saw the crash is asked to contact Kent Police on 101 quoting incident number 06-1281.
