Police swoop in on a number of Sittingbourne addresses in crime crackdown

Police have made a series of arrests after using search warrants to raid a number of addresses in the area.

On Monday evening, officers were called to a property in Castle Road, Murston, to reports of a burglary in progress.

A 17-year-old boy from Sittingbourne, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has now been charged burglary, robbery, theft from a motor vehicle and five counts of shoplifting after being interviewed by detectives.

The shoplifting charges relate to incidents at the Co-op on Church Road, one at Tesco in Canterbury Road and another at Wilkinson’s in Sittingbourne High Street.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court today.

Another man was also arrested in connection with the same robbery, in which a person had their mobile phone stolen in an assault in Tonge Road on April 4.

Shane Baker, 26, was remanded in custody to appear before Medway magistrates today charged with shoplifting, criminal damage, vehicle interference and possession of amphetamines.

A 15-year-old boy from Sheerness is also due to appear before magistrates today after being charged with five counts of shoplifting at the Co-op.
