Car on fire on M2 after Stockbury roundabout

Motorists suffered long delays after a broken down van caught fire.

Traffic on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 was stopped just after the Stockbury roundabout to allow emergency services to get to the scene.

A lane was also been blocked following a crash nearby.

It happened just after the Junction 5 exit slip road at around 4.40pm, causing seven miles of tailbacks.

Kent County Council's highways team said traffic was moving again at around 5.45pm, however, motorists have been warned "severe delays" on the M2 and on the A249 Maidstone-bound.
