Matt Wyatt will make no promises to out-of-contract Sittingbourne players until he knows the budget for next season.

Joint-bosses Wyatt and Nick Davis are keen to keep hold of Brickies’ main men and avoid the break-up of a side they feel capable of a top-half finish next year. But the pair won’t make any offers they may not be able to honour.

Wyatt said: “We need to talk about the budget and, as I’ve said, there’s a few things to be ironed out behind the scenes.

“From mine and Nick’s point of view, we’ve got to make sure we work quickly because there are four, five, six players whose contracts are up for renewal and you can’t afford to lose your best players.

“People may say you can go out and get someone else in but it’s not that easy.

“You have to consider whether you can get them in for the same money, how they will fit in with the rest of the dressing room and can they make training and matches.

“A couple of the players have spoken to us about next season, whether we’ll be here and do we want them around? Once everything’s confirmed, we can sit down properly and start talking."

Brickies were 2-1 winners over Hastings on Tuesday and host Hythe on Thursday. New signing Reece Gallagher misses the Hythe game through work commitments but is set to return at Herne Bay on Saturday.
