Sittingbourne want a new manager in place by the weekend after an FA Trophy nightmare at Horsham.

Secretary John Pitts is interviewing this week and is looking to appoint Matt Wyatt’s successor in time for the Ryman League Division 1 South game at Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday.

Caretaker boss Barry Crimmen appears to be out of the reckoning after Brickies lost 6-2 in the FA Trophy first qualifying round at Horsham – his third straight defeat.

A lack of forwards and the dismissal of keeper Adam Molloy, for dissent, didn’t help Brickies’ cause. But Mr Pitts was concerned by Sunday’s display and knows the club need a new boss in place.

He said: “It was an unmitigated disaster, a poor performance that isn’t good enough at our level.

“I’m not blaming Barry – he can only pick the players he has available – but things can only get better.

“We’re interviewing this week and may have someone in by Friday. We’ve had interest from 10 people and are interviewing five.

“We’d like to have a manager in place by the weekend, particularly as we’re playing one of the better sides in the league in Tooting."
