Sittingbourne manager Nick Davis says former striker Miles Cornwell is welcome to return to the club if move to Folkestone turns sour

Miles Cornwell has been told he is always welcome back at Sittingbourne after reluctantly leaving the club.

Cornwell has left to try his luck in the Ryman League Premier Division with Folkestone.
He came to Invicta’s attention after scoring eight goals in a flying start to the season.

The striker was happy at Sittingbourne, where his dad Tony is assistant manager, but eventually accepted Folkestone’s offer, scoring on his debut in a 3-1 win over Kingstonian at the weekend.

Brickies boss Nick Davis said: “To be honest, Miles didn’t want to go. He was enjoying it here and playing well.

“But I said to him, ‘don’t have any regrets, you’ve never played Ryman Premier before, it’s a good level, why wouldn’t you want to test yourself?’.

“I told him if it doesn’t work out he can always come back. It was a tough one for him but Folkestone have doubled his money and financially we couldn’t get near what they were offering.

“It’s a shame we’ve lost him but he can leave with his head held high and we wish him all the best."

Sittingbourne are 11th in Ryman League Division 1 South after Tom Carlse's 89th-minute winner at Three Bridges on Tuesday. They host promotion-chasing Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday (3pm) without Jack Steventon, who completes a three-match ban.

They then travel to Tonbridge in round two of the League Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).
