Guest rider Robert Branford led Kent Kings to their first National League victory of the season.

Branford, deputising for captain Ben Morley, top-scored with 14 points as Kings beat King's Lynn Young Stars 55-37 at Central Park on Bank Holiday Monday.

Kent regulars also impressed with James Shanes picking up three straight heat wins en route to 13 points while skipper-for-the-day Danny Ayres won the bronze helmet race.

Kings manager Chris Hunt said: "We certainly chose the right guest in Branford and I thank Rob for such a great effort.

"The rest of the lads are just showing so much confidence in their riding around Central Park.

"And we are blessed with some outstanding entertainers too – it’s racing like this which will bring the crowds in and keep them coming back for more.

"The team spirit in our side is second to none too and that’s great to see."
