Kent Kings suffered back-to-back away defeats over the weekend.

They lost 58-32 in the second leg of their Knockout Cup quarter-final tie at Stoke Potters on Saturday, going down 108-72 on aggregate.

The team were missing captain Simon Lambert but welcomed back key man Benji Compton from a broken hand.

Kings went into the match with a 10-point deficit from the first leg and were always up against it, although rookie Danny Ayres impressed with two heat wins in a paid nine return.

Ayres said: "I'd never seen the Stoke circuit before so to win my first ride there was a bonus and I was dead chuffed to record a second heat win in 14."

Kent then lost 59-36 in the National Trophy at Mildenhall on Sunday.

Vice-captain David Mason was withdrawn by doctors due to a suspected kidney infection after his opening ride and is a doubt for the return match at Central Park on Monday night (6.30pm).

Lambert returned with 15 points, while Compton (11) also impressed.

Kings boss John Sampford said: "Our skipper Simon Lambert had an excellent meeting, showing how much we'd missed him the night before.

"He rode extremely courageously, inches from the unforgiving fence to pass home riders.

"For Benji, a double-figures return on his second match back is a good sign that he's feeling his way back very nicely."
