Shane Byrne made it back-to-back doubles in the British Superbike Championship at Knockhill on Sunday.

Sittingbourne rider Byrne won both races in Scotland to follow his pair of victories at Snetterton.

He took the lead from PBM Kawasaki team-mate Stuart Easton in the opening race and went on to win by 0.495sec, with Josh Brookes third.

Byrne had hit the front from third place in race two when the red flag came out on lap 13 following heavy rain.

The race restarted in the dry with Byrne holding off Easton over the final 11 laps to beat his Kawasaki team-mate by 0.436, with Brookes third again.

Byrne, who has opened up a 35-point lead over title rival Brookes, said: "It might have looked easy but I can tell you it wasn't.

"The first race was long and the pace was not as quick and I had expected it to be but I was desperate to be in front.

"In the second race I was one of the riders who put my hand up to get the race stopped.

"There are people saying if it had run another lap or so it would have been two thirds distance and a result declared.

"OK, I would still have the win but to those people I would say come and ride at 155mph into the first turn with rain and see what it is like – it had to be stopped for safety reasons."

Round six takes place at Brands Hatch on July 17-19.
