The 85th anniversary of speedway in Kent was marked by the Invicta Pairs meeting at Central Park on Monday night.

Just two points separated the top five teams on an entertaining night's racing that saw hosts Kent Kings triumph.

The dominance of home captain Ben Morley made the difference, winning all five rides for a 15-point maximum.

Team-mate Adam Sheppard struggled with mechanical problems, returning only two points, but with Morley in such good form, Kings triumphed.

They finished with 17 points, pipping Crayford Kestrels (16), Romney Falcons (16), Crayford Highwaymen (15) and Crusaders (15), with Bombers (11) back in sixth place.

Morley said: "It was weird, the format. It went so fast it felt like I was in every race.

"When we first got here I thought we had a chance and if Adam hadn't had some bike problems I think we would have won by more."
