Sittingbourne top scorer Kane Rowland says his team need to stick together during poor run

Top scorer Kane Rowland has urged Sittingbourne to stick together to come through their first blip.

Brickies have lost three of their last four games, including an FA Trophy replay at Haringey on Monday night.

It’s one win in eight in all competitions for a side who have become one of the teams to beat following their impressive start to the season.

They hit top spot in Bostik South a few weeks ago but go into Saturday’s home game against South Park in seventh place, outside the play-offs on goal difference.

Rowland, however, says they can fly high again.

The striker, who has nine goals, said: “We started the season well. I don’t think anyone expected it – people inside or outside the club.

“We were the underdogs to start with but where we’ve done well, people know we’re not too bad and they raise their game.

“You can see how much it means to teams when they beat us.

“It’s disappointing to lose a couple but we just need to stick together, not worry about it and just play our game and I’m sure we’ll get back to winning ways.

“I think our work rate may have dropped slightly and that could be because we’ve been playing so many games but I’m sure we’ll pick up.”

Sittingbourne have matched the top teams in Bostik South and Rowland is confident they will maintain their play-off challenge.

He said: “We’re definitely capable of making the play-offs.

“We’ve been in the top two and I don’t see any reason why we can’t stay around the play-offs.

“I’ll be disappointed if we don’t stay up there after the start we’ve made but there’s a long way to go.”
