Swale Bowls Club celebrate hat-trick of fours titles at National Indoor Bowls Championships

Swale Bowls Club made it three women's fours titles in five years at the National Indoor Bowls Championships.

Wendy King, Sandy Hazell, Imogen Jenner and Paige Dennis were 20-9 winners for the Sittingbourne-based club over Suffolk side Beccles at Melton Mowbray.

Dennis, Hazell and King only recently returned from competing in Scotland where they helped England to international series success.

“Our feet have hardly touched the ground,” said Sheppey-based King.

“We can’t quite believe what’s going on. We’re really enjoying it and we just want to keep winning.”

Jenner was a replacement for regular Amy Banes at the weekend and Swale won the fours semi-final and final convincingly.

They beat Barwell 22-8 on Sunday morning to make it through to the final.

Swale led 8-5 in the final after eight ends and 14-9 after 13, before the Sittingbourne-based quartet strung together a 1-2-3 sequence to lead 20-9. The Suffolk team threw in the towel with two ends still to play.

The victory comes after winning both the 2014 and 2016 fours titles and means they will represent England in the next British Isles Fours tournament.

King and Hazell were due to begin the defence of their pairs title on Wednesday, but Swale's triples bid ended with an extra end 20-19 quarter-final defeat to Torquay United.
