Returning boss Matt Wyatt doesn’t expect Sittingbourne to be taken seriously any time soon.

Wyatt will be back in the dugout after a family holiday when Brickies host Whyteleafe on Saturday.

Bourne have won three of their four Ryman League Division 1 South games so far and Wyatt is confident his young side have the talent to mount a promotion challenge.

Tuesday night's 2-1 win at Hythe was the last of three matches missed by Wyatt, who continued to pick the team from Spain.

He said: “People will only start taking us seriously if we’re top of the league after 45 games. But that’s how we like it – we like being little old Sittingbourne. Our will to win and desire to prove people wrong is becoming evident.

“I always said it would be sink or swim for us this season but, so far, I’m delighted for the players with the way they’ve gone about their business."

Brickies could have a new signing in place by the time they go to Folkestone on Bank Holiday Monday.

Wyatt was working on a deal while in Spain, and he said: “It will be a major coup if we can get the player in.”
