Joint-boss Matt Wyatt wants Sittingbourne to draw inspiration from their FA Cup run as they set about climbing the league table.

Bourne gave Skrill South Staines a fright before bowing out 4-1 in the third qualifying round last weekend.

They now turn their attention back to Ryman League, Division 1 South with games at Peacehaven & Telscombe tonight (Wednesday) and Worthing on Saturday.

Wyatt’s team are 21st in the table and have lost all four away matches but confidence is high after a tremendous effort at Staines that saw Bourne take the game to opponents who play two levels above them.

He said: “We’ve proved we can match anyone in the FA Cup and now we have to do it in the league.

“It’s difficult coming back after taking three points from 18 at the start of the season but we feel that if we can be around the top 12 by the new year, we can challenge for the play-offs.

“It’s all about consistency and which team turns up – the one who did so well at Staines and at Thamesmead the round before, or the one who lost 5-1 to Whitstable in the FA Trophy.

“We haven’t picked up a point away from home yet and have to put that right.”
