Cash for Sittingbourne road improvements

One of Sittingbourne’s major routes is set to benefit from a
government cash injection.
Kent County Council is to receive £4 million this year and £2.2
million for 2014/15 as the Department for Transport funds schemes
to improve Britain’s roads.
As a result, resurfacing work costing £100,000 will be carried
out to Bell Road between April 16 and April 18.
The diversion route will be via St Michaels Road, Dover Street,
Park Road, Albany Road and Avenue of Remembrance.
A section of Crown Quay Lane will be resurfaced at the same time
to reduce the need for further closures and congestion.
The government cash will also be used to carry out work to the
following roads this spring: Church Street, Faversham; St Marys/St
Johns/Institute Roads, Faversham; Broad Street, Sheerness; Main
Road, Queenborough; Eastchurch footways; Warden Road,
Eastchurch.
There will also be work at School Road, Sittingbourne;
Brenley Lane, Boughton, from M2 down to junction; Lydbrook Close,
Sittingbourne; Oad Street, Bredgar – A249 to 100m east of M2
overbridge; The Broadway, Minster – hill brow to Minster Road
including mini-roundabout; and Tunstall Road, Tunstall – the
90-degree bend at the junction with Ruins Barn Road.
In 2012, KCC completed 14,885 jobs to repair potholes.
Crews sent out on the county’s roads fixed these within an
average of 14 days, a 44% improvement on the previous year.
